Step 2: Follow Jesus to Die with Him PDF Print E-mail

When Jesus decided to go to Bethany, Thomas invited the others to go with Jesus.

They followed him, in the words of Thomas, 'to die with him'. So this is our second step: Once we accepted Jesus on his terms, we follow him – to die with him.

Becoming a follower of Jesus does not guarantee a trouble-free life. It is not a life of prosperity. Neither is it a life where everything works out the way we want it.

Following Jesus means that everything will work out the way he wants it to be. it is in fact, a call to die to ourselves. Jesus said that whoever wants to be my disciple should deny himself and take up his cross and come follow me.

It is a call to deny ourselves - not my will, but the Father's will be done. Without submission to the Father's will, without dying to ourselves, we cannot follow Jesus.
