Sex and Marriage PDF Print E-mail

With this, we see that marriage was the first of the sacraments to be instituted by God himself. Marriage is God's plan for human beings and it should be between a man and a woman. God also blessed them first before he told them to be fruitful and multiply. This means that the union of man and woman should be blessed BEFORE they even come together.

A lot of commentators say that the Church is against sex. But we see that this is not true. The man and the woman were commanded to be fruitful and multiply. It is the couple's responsibility to multiply. The Church is not against sex. She is against sex outside of marriage. Sex is to be ENJOYED within the confines of marriage.

A few years ago, I read an article in the Times Colonist saying that the Pope opposes the use of condom to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Again, we see secular people twisting the truth to promote their agenda.

First of all, the issue is not using condoms to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The issue is sex outside of marriage whether it is pre-marital or extra-marital sex. If a couple were to contain their relationships to their spouses, then there is little or no chance of having sexually transmitted diseases.

The second issue is that using condoms or other artificial means of contraception raises a risk of one person using the other one for sexual pleasure. It degrades the other person to a thing rather than a person.

Third issue is that since we said that the union of man and woman mirrors the relationship of the Trinity. We say that the Father gives life through the Son. Similarly, the man gives life through the woman. The sexual act should be open to life if it is to be the image of the Trinity.

I took up electrical engineering in university. The first thing taught to us was to treat any exposed wire as live. We were taught to respect electricity because if we do not, the result could be fatal. As we know, when used properly, electricity is a good thing. It provides convenience by providing lighting and heating. It also gives life by providing power to medical equipments that are used to save lives. However, if used recklessly, electricity can be fatal. People can die and do die.

The same with sex, it is a wonderful thing. Used properly, it gives life and it also provides husband and wife an opportunity to express their love in a special way. But used recklessly, it gives way to adultery and fornication, which leads to broken families and worst of all, mortal sin or death of one's soul.
