A Lay Person's Short Reflection on the Gospel According to John

St. John the Evangelist stained glass window at St. Andrew's Cathedral Victoria BCThis version of the gospel was written probably towards the end of the first century. It has an unnamed disciples whom tradition identifies as John the Apostle.

Many commentators say that this gospel clearly shows the divinity of Jesus. However, for me, it shows the humanity of Jesus.

It shows Jesus growing tired, Jesus overcome by emotions to the point of weeping. It also carefully pointed out that blood and water flowed out of the side of Jesus, proving that he was human and that he really died. It is in showing the humanity of Jesus that his divinity becomes apparent.

The author said that this was written so that the reader may believe that Jesus is the Son of God and thus have life in his name.

This was written based on my own reflections, prayer and research.

May you find joy as you read my attempt at reflecting on this work of the Beloved disciple.

God bless you.
