Psalm 14 PDF Print E-mail

In this psalm, David describes fools as those who think there is no God. As such, they act as if there is no accountability. David says that these are corrupt and do abominable deeds. They do not do what is right. The psalm says that God looked on humanity and he searched for a wise person who sought after God - and he found none!

This is the sorry state of humanity. Every one sins! There is no one who does good. Verse 3 actually repeats this fact three times - "none that does good, no, not one". Before the eyes of God, everyone is a sinner.

The psalm then describes those who do evil - they eat up God's people and do not call on the Lord. They also frustrate the plans of the poor. David then prophesies on what will happen to them - they will be in great fear. The reason for this is because God is with the poor and patient.

The poor here is not only someone who has no possession - since one can be poor and still arrogant. The poor here is one who is spiritually poor - one who entrusts everything to God. God is on the side of the poor and patient. When one trusts God, one waits for him. And God will move. He is a safe refuge for these people.

God will intervene - trust and patience is needed.

Lord God, I am a sinner. Forgive me Lord for I trust in you. May I live my life according to your word. Teach me to always rely on you - to trust everything to you Lord. Teach me to wait for you.
