Reflections on Scripture by a Lay Catholic
You might be wondering whether you read the title correctly. Yes, I am a lay Catholic. You might ask what is a Lay Catholic doing writing about scripture?
For those who know me, I have no degree in theology, biblical studies nor philosophy. In college, I was trained as an engineer and I currently work in information technology. Two areas that are unrelated to biblical studies.
So what right do I have to write a commentary on scripture when I do not have the necessary training for it? To this, I say, I have no right to comment on scripture.
However, like alll baptized Catholics, I do have a duty to proclaim the greatness of God. This commentary is a testimony of God's awesome power - that he can use anything and anyone to proclaim his word. The Old Testament in fact, records that God spoke through a donkey! If he can speak through a donkey, he can certainly speak through a sinner like me!
Another thing is that although I may not have any training in biblical studies, my training in college and my profession have given me the discipline and skills to read and pray over scripture with an analytical mind. It has also taught me how to do research and to be discerning in my research. This is sheer grace from God.
These reflections are therefore, not based on theological discussions. I try to avoid thological discussions since these confuse me and I claim no expertise in it. These are the result of my prayers as I read scripture - in short, my personal experience of God's powerful word.
That being said, these reflections are my own. They do not reflect the official teachings of the Catholic Church. So if you find some mistakes, these are my own so I will appreciate it is you will let me know so that I can correct these.
May God be glorified in all we do and may he bless you and may he enlighten you on your journey to holiness.
