Come, and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul.
Psalm 66:16

We cannot all be preachers or teachers. We cannot all be community leaders. But we are called to declare what God has done for us. This is evangelization.

In chapter 4 of the gospel according to John, Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman. The Samaritan woman did not know a lot about Jesus. But she became an evangelist of Jesus to her people. She went and told the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything that I did”. This woman was not even a believer of the True God. But her invitation to her people brought many Samaritans to Jesus.

In chapter 9 also of the same gospel, we see the man born blind. Jesus came and healed him. The man started to talk about Jesus. He did not know anything about Jesus except for the fact that Jesus healed him. When pressed by the questions, we see him gradually revealing Jesus to his listeners. First, he said, “A man called Jesus”. Then he said, “He is a prophet”. Then he asked the leaders if they wanted to be disciples of Jesus, making Jesus a teacher. Finally, he said “since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind”. He brought the discussion to the beginning of the world where only God existed.

As the man spoke of Jesus, he got closer and closer to the truth about Jesus. Jesus had to reveal himself to the man before the man believed in Jesus.

The man did not know anything about Jesus. The man was blind, so was probably illiterate. But he knew Jesus and what he did for him. This was enough for him to be an evangelist.

When we speak about Jesus and what he has done, we are drawn into a deeper relationship with him. We get to know more about Jesus when we speak about him.

Evangelization is not limited to those who know scripture. It is not limited to those who have degrees in theology. It is everyone's responsibility because it is simply speaking and telling people about what the Lord has done. A believer of Jesus is called to evangelize. There is no excuse for not doing it. As disciples, we should be aware of all the good the Lord has done for us.

Lord, give me the courage to speak of all that you have done for us.
