But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:19 This verse described Mary during the visit of the shepherds during the birth of Jesus. They had just told her of what the angels told them about the child - that he was to be the Messiah - the Lord.

This was probably something that was unbelievable to everyone who heard of it. But instead of disregarding the news, Mary treasured the words and pondered them in her heart. What is interesting also is that when Jesus was lost in Jerusalem a few years later, Mary also reasured all these things in her heart. Mary seems to be a person who might not understand the Lord - but who knew how valuable these instances were to her faith.

Very often, we come to darkness and dryness. We will not understand what the Lord is doing to us. But we know that he is doing something to us. And we know that it is very painful - often detaching us from whatever is valuable to us. Through these dark times, what can we do?

Recently, there has been an article about Mother Teresa, how she suffered for 50 years - in darkness. Very often, she felt that God was absent. Yet, if we read the article, we find that this darkness made her who she was. She may not have understood the Lord or what he was doing, but she never stopped loving the Lord.

Same with us. We may not understand what God is doing now. Things may not go the way we want to. But if we ponder in our hearts Gods word - we know that our fate is in the Lord. He is with us and his plans are far better than our wildest dreams.

Is there something that troubles you now? Is there darkness in your life? Ponder Gods word in your heart - not to understand the Lord - but to love him more.
