I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
John 10:10

This passage shows that Jesus is the source of life. Life is a gift from him. And we all know that God is a generous giver. When he gives, he gives in abundance. In terms of life, God gives it so that we can have a full life - a perfect life.
But how do we get that perfect life? Obviously, a perfect life is not one where we have all the riches that we can have. It is not having everything we want. Jesus himself said it.

This is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent."
(John 17:3)

John said that the gospel was written:

that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God, and that believing
you may have life in his name
(John 20:31)

Living a full life means to believe that Jesus is the Christ and that he is the Son of God. We have to believe in both facts. Demons believe that Jesus is the Son of God. They professed it everytime Jesus and the demons met. But never did the demons say that Jesus is the Lord.

During the ministry of Jesus, the apostles believed that Jesus is their Lord and they call him so. But they never fully understood what it meant when he said that he is the Son of God.

When Jesus asked his disciples who he was, only Peter got it right:
You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God
(Matthew 16:16)
And because of his confession, Jesus made him the rock of his Church - founded on this confession.

To have a perfect life means to confess that Jesus is the Lord and that he is the Son of God. To confess that Jesus is Lord is to live a life where he is Lord. To confess that he is the Son of God is to live a life where he is the Son of God. It is to live a life of freedom and choice.

Sadly, in society today, choice and freedom are associated with death. People want choice and freedom to their own bodies and destiny. In doing so, they destroy life in its most vulnerable stage. They destroy life and call it dignity. They live according to their passions thinking that they are not hurting others when in fact, the person they hurt most are themselves. In our time, human choice and freedom has brought us to this culture of death.

Freedom and choice in the Lord is not one that allows us to make any decision we want. It is not doing anything I want because I am free. But freedom is freely doing what the Father wants as revealed through Jesus our Lord.

Jesus is the best example of freedom. He always sought the Father's will. He did things for the glory of the Father. Because of this, he was not bound by human traditions or scruples. Because he did the Father's will he freely went where he wanted, with whom he wanted, when he wanted. He was not even bound by laws of nature. All these because he freely chose to do the will of the Father.

In the book of Deuteronomy, God presented two choices to his people:

See, I have set before you this day life and good, death and evil.
If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you this day,
by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways,
and by keeping his commandments and statutes and his ordinances,
they you shall live and multiply,
and the LORD your God will bless you in the land
which you are entering to take possession of it.
But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear,
but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them,
I declare to you this day,
that you shall perish;
you shall not live long in the land
which you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day,
that I set before you life and death, blessing and curse;
therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live
Deuteronomy 30:15-19

God presents us with two choices also. Which one do we choose?

May we continue to choose life with him so that we will be able to have the fullness of life that Jesus wants to give us.
